REDALYC was developed in 2002 through a research programme of the Autonomous State University Of Mexico (UAEM). The main objectives where to increase the visibility of and access to Ibero-American journals, to develop regional bibliographical indicators for research evaluation and to periodically provide analyses of regional socioscientific networks.

"At the same time, the individual achievements of Mexican scientists are increasingly visible. The recent creation of Redalyc, an open acces journal repository for Latin America has improved the impact that local research has at a global level and according to UNESCO is an important contribution to improving access to scientific knowledge."

"The World Summit Award Board of Directors hereby declares and certifies that Scientific Journal Network: REDALYC from México produced by Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México has been awarded a Special Mention for Latin America & the Caribbean by the WSA Grand Jury 2009 in the Category e-Science & Technology."

The world summit Award National Committee of Mexico hereby declares and certifies that REDALYC has been selected as Mexico's Best e-Content Application in the Category e-Sciences and Technology.
