Burnout research has reached a variety of jobs, whether welfare-related or not. Very few studies of burnout among psychologists exist, although this job involves a higher burnout risk. The "Psychologists Burnout Inventory" (PBI) is an inventory intended at evaluating burnout processes in psychologists. It consists of three parts: job characteristics, burnout dimensions and associated symptoms. The PBI was administered to a sample of 203 psychologists, whether Spanish speaking or Portuguese speaking (Brazilians), clearly showing a three-factor structure according to the classical burnout treatment model: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and lack of personal accomplishment. Associated symptoms cluster in three dimensions: psychological, physical and social consequences. The three parts of PBI are closely related: job characteristics relate to burnout level and the latter is related to perceived symptoms.
