Systcmatic study of the chemical composition of precipitation in a given region allows determination of the ~recinitation contribution of nutrients to soils. The . . data were obtained from a rain sampling program at. Guanajuato Plains, Guanajuato State, Mexico, one of the most important agricultural areas in Mexico, but in a process of rapid industrialization. The total amount of inorganic N deposited on Bajio Plains, ranged from 6 to 17 KglHa, representing 5.7 to 22.8 % of ¡he urea-N applied during the growing season. ~ i t h re&ct to sdfate, the most abundant ion in rain water, the amount deposited by rain represented only 5.4 to 22 % of the total S04 as (NH4)2S04 applied.
