en: Alexandra Kollontai was the Soviet Union’s ambassador to Mexico in 1926-1927. The memoirs of her time there are conserved in her Diarios Diplomáticos (Diplomatic Diaries), correspondence and other documents. An analysis of these materials enlightens us as to the circumstances of her appointment, her relation with the Mexican Communist Party, and the way in which she recorded her encounter with the country, its government and its people.>>>

en: This article examines the trajectory of Amalia de Castillo Ledón during the presidencies of Emilio Portes Gil and Lázaro Cárdenas, presenting the first analysis of how the government posts she held -with ever greater responsibility- inside the country, together with the diplomatic assignments she fulfilled from 1929 to 1939, won her a position in Mexico’s post-revolutionary elite that she succeeded in conserving throughout her lifetime. The experiences acquired, and lessons learned, in the Direction of Popular Recreation, the Department of the Federal District, Luis Castillo Ledón’s government in Nayarit, and as a diplomatic representative to the Pan-American Round Table in San Antonio, Texas, and the Inter-American Commission on Women, nourished and shaped the “state feminism” that would define Castillo Ledón’s trajectory, which resulted in her becoming the woman with the greatest political power in the mid-20org.siir.client.entities.Sup@1e41d063 century. Analysis is based on previously unexplored documents from the Archivo Histórico de la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores.>>>
en: This article examines how María Guadalupe Urzúa Flores worked to consolidate her leadership and political ascent in Mexico’s Confederación Nacional Campesina (CNC, “National Confederation of Peasants”), and in the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI, “Institutional Revolutionary Party”) during her time as Director of the CNC’s Secretariat of Women’s Action. It explores the process through which women became affiliated to the PRI In the decade of 1950, and identifies the social policies that the Secretariat of Women’s Action strove to have implemented from 1953 to 1955; two key years for the political participation of women in Mexico.>>>

en: This essay presents an exploration of the feminist praxis of Dr. Mathilde Rodríguez Cabo, Mexico’s first woman psychiatrist, that accentuates her voice, her pen and her actions at different moments of her public life. It emphasizes her diagnoses that procured the elimination of the inequality of women, and her suffragist vindication of the recognition of women’s political rights and citizenship, while placing the criticism of her political -even eugenicist arguments- in the context of the radical imaginary of the Mexican Revolution. Her thought was nourished by policies on public health and the welfare of children and women in the Soviet Union. Finally, I elucidate her pacifism, manifested through international feminist networks, and in relation to popular fronts, the battle against fascism, war, and the postwar period, as referents of her sociopolitical ideology.>>>

en: This essay focuses on the possibilities that the informatics applications provide for texts reading in a context of big data, or in other words in an infinite archive, which is a key issue for digital humanities. The central problem is to what extent an informatics application is able to read texts and to make them comprehensive for humans. In order to address this problem, it is necessary to consider three forms of reading directly relate with the digital turn: distant, fragmented, and collaborative. The analysis of these forms of reading involves broader questions about reading in the web and the dichotomy between the possibilities that the informatics applications and the empiric results of using computerized models in the study of culture.>>>

en: From the second half of the sixteenth century, corregidores, or district administrators, were appointed in several parts of Spanish America and it became one of the most controversial offices in the colonial administration. Nevertheless, this position has remained almost unstudied in the province of Yucatan. Consequently, the present article attempts, on the one hand, to identify the corregidores that were designated in this province in the second half of the sixteenth century, as well as to highlight the reasons that would lead the Spanish Crown to order the suspension of this position in 1580. On the other hand, we will analyze the functions which were in charge of the corregidores, especially the ones relating to the administration of justice in the local level. In order to respond to those questions, a wide range of legal documentation will be used, including the appointments that were given to the corregidores, their relations of deeds and services, and the royal decrees that were aimed to control and regulate this office in Yucatan.>>>

en: This article examines the definition of the image of modern Mexico in the early 20org.siir.client.entities.Sup@4a6d6afb century based on a reading of public opinion in Spain in relation to four moments of Mexican culture: the Congreso Hispanoamericano of 1900, the appearance of manuals on the patriotic history, the celebration of the Centennial of Mexican Independence, and the Mexican Revolution. The interpretation of public opinion on those events in Spain reveals the image of modern Mexico that the government of Porfirio Díaz had fostered, in part, through the intellectual labors of such personages as Justo Sierra, and which sought, at the same time, to define the country’s sovereignty and national identity.>>>
