en: The administration of Health Institutions (HI) takes into consideration economic, social and environmental objectives. Moreover, the institutional nature of such institutions, whether private (for profit) or public (owned by the government), determines the relationships within its objectives. According to Decision Analysis Theory (DA), every decision must be studied starting from the objectives that give foundation to it; thus, the decision models utilized by the administration of a HI should reflect its nature. This article shows the usage of DA to develop decision models for the selection of an analyzer and the time between appointments for hypothetical case studies of a private and a public HI. It can be observed that in the former, the greatest modeling effort lies in capturing uncertainties, whereas the latter emphasized analyzing preferences. In relation to the latter, a graphical tool -the Circle of Utility- is presented to calculate the deliberations of the additive utility functions.>>>

en: A functional understanding of forces and tension as vector quantities requires students’ capability of reasoning vector operations. In this article, we present data describing students’ conceptual difficulties with vector operations and tension after lab instructional modifications. These data suggest that despite lab instructional modifications, some students do not recognize the vector nature of force and tension concept. Other students do not have the requisite procedural knowledge to determine net force or tension. In addition, we describe some procedural and reasoning difficulties we have observed in students’ use of vectors in the context of tension through lab modifications related to forces and addition of forces.>>>

en: This article describes the damage caused by noise exposure levels in different scientific studies. The in situ decibel measurements are shown as well as the results of an exploratory study that presents the perception of 168 inhabitants in a determined zone in the city of Queretaro regarding noise pollution, with the objective of finding the degree of perceived affectation to determine if there is concordance between them. This article is part of an investigation aimed at developing a noise reduction product for housing. Our findings indicate that, although nearly 60% of respondents preceived the noise of the area with high levels, and identify vehicles and motorcycles as the most annoying source of noise, people are not aware of the effects it has on the performance of their activities as a consequence of the noise pollution levels in the area.>>>

In Mexico, the National Network for Sustainable Rural Development (RENDRUS by its acronym in Spanish) is an instrument of public policy created in 1996,whose principal aim is to promote economic development in rural areas. This paper examines this Network under assessment methodologies in sustainability. It is seen as a conclusion, that the effort is remarkable because the network produced a sustained and institutionalized learning; but our examination reveals areas of opportunity which can improve its functionality, such as the incorporation of an integral model of assesment of the projects involved in RENDRUS that includes the definition of specific indicators and monitoring of rural development projects.>>>

en: This article aims to outline, synthesize and analyze Nonaka´s perspective on practical wisdom, facilitator spaces and knowledge creators as part of his Organizational Theory. Multiple documents written by Nonaka in colaboration with several co-authors in specialized journals have been reviewed for this article. The paper also considers documents published by the author in the nineties, as well as the latest proposals and analytical categories that the author has incorporated to the management of knowledge. The inquiries guiding this work are the following: Why is it important to distinguish between tacit and explicit knowledge and what factors favor such conversion? What makes it so necessary to consider practical wisdom and spaces of knowledge as key elements of Nonaka´s proporsal? And, how different is Nonaka´s proposal from Traditional Theories of Organization and what are the main contributions of this author to the Theory of Organizational Knowledge?>>>

Nevertheless, the enrollment of students in Mexico has grown slowly: only about 30% of the total population of students enrolled in a program related to engineering are women. To carry out this research a survey was applied to registered women students to the career of Aerospace Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at the semester 2014-1. In order to present the results, research was done on the reasons for the choice of this discipline of study and model the future performance of female students of engineering degrees in the municipality of Mexicali. The findings show that there is missing a female role model for students, so it is proposed the inclusion of a model Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics STEM to increase preference and enrollment of women at the Faculty of Engineering.>>>

en: This article focuses on Mexican teachers’ perception of teaching English through content-based pedagogy from a dual perspective. The teachers in this study learned English through content-based learning and are now teaching English using the same method. A qualitative approach was used in order to understand the participants lived experience through semistructure interviews. The interviews focused on teachers’ perception regarding Content-Based Instruction and determining whether the participant would recommend content-based teaching or not. The data suggested that despite participants having learned English through content they would not recommend it due to inappropriate context. Recommendations for further research are suggested.>>>

en: This article addresses the analysis of the well-being of 121 Zapotec and Chatino households in the Southern Sierra of the state of Oaxaca; specifically, the household economy is evaluated and a theoretical model of well-being composed of 27 independent variables is tested. Some of these variables include: income, diet, vulnerability, socio-demographic characteristics, assets and quality of housing. The information arises from structured interviews, funded by the CDI, to householders between September and October 2013. The dependent variable “The Well-Being of Indigenous Households (BHI)” was constructed through the multivariate technique of factor analysis considering the following spending items: food, health, education, clothing, transportation, and electricity. The variable BHI was stratified through the method of optimal stratification from Dalenius and Hodges (1959). Afterwards, the well-being model that establishes defined relationships between BHI and the independent significant variables through multiple regression analysis was built. Thus, it was possible to identify those variables that favor or restrict well-being through two linear equations.>>>

en: This paper presents the results from 30 in-depth interviews made to youngsters from deprived areas regarding their social representations (SR) of formal education using Alceste© (Lexical analysis of co-occurrences in simple sentences of a text). Firstly, the basic guidelines and the data collection methodology of the research are presented. Then, the four lexical classes, which resulted from the investigation, are analyzed. Two lexical sets are generated in the discourse: an ”outside” vision of the school, in relation to other worlds and placed in context with other realities, and an “inside” vision including learning and teaching and its usefulness for the future. Finally, some considerations are presented regarding the use of the results and the opportunity it offers to explore Social Representations (SR). A more prudent use of the results and consideration in taking this procedure as a first step in the intellection of SR is suggested.>>>

en: This article presents the reflections the Mexican historian Edmundo O’Gorman wrote in 1940 about the artistic monstrosity as an epistemological basis for establishing a dialogue with the art world of the ancient Mexicans and art in general. It is observed that the formulations of the author of The Invention of America are contemporary with Russian author Mijail Bajtin and which deal with the same subject. Both are pioneers, however, the first organized his arguments in a few pages from a theoretical perspective that has many followers today. In this paper other claims from various authors are considered regarding this deep dimension of the human which only art is capable of expressing.>>>
