É com muita satisfação que apresentamos o primeiro número da revista Acta Scientiarum: Language and Culture, vol. 39, referente ao ano de 2017, dedicado à área de literatura.

No primeiro artigo, intitulado Os feácios e a transição de Odisseu na Odisseia, André Malta Campos parte de uma das maiores unanimidades entre os estudiosos de Homero, que é a visão a respeito do papel “transicional” desempenhado pelos feácios na Odisseia, para analisar o modo como ele constrói a caracterização desses seus anfitriões: um povo que, ao comportar em si elementos “reais” e “míticos”, oferece ao herói a oportunidade de rememorar as vicissitudes por que passou desde a partida de Troia, igualmente mescladas por elementos opostos, de modo a lhes evidenciar a possibilidade de conexão, concretamente representada pela perícia desses homens em navegar. O segundo, Cobras retóricas, horror poético: efeitos de expressão e a morte de Laocoonte na Eneida, de Márcio Thamos, ocupa-se de analisar no episódio da morte de Laocoonte, inserido no relato sobre o cavalo de Troia, na Eneida, os efeitos de sentido alcançados a partir do emprego de figuras de retórica, os quais, somados à interpenetração dos planos da linguagem e à solidariedade entre o conteúdo e a expressão como índice de literariedade, garantem ao texto um elevado grau de expressividade. Visando a contextualização do episódio, o autor oferece uma tradução decassilábica dos hexâmetros de Virgílio, empenhada em preservar as figuras de linguagem empregadas em latim e os principais efeitos de sentido por elas suscitados. No terceiro artigo desse número, intitulado Performances e performatividade narrativa em “Toda Lana Turner tem seu Johnny Stompanato”, de Sonia Coutinho, os autores Caio Antônio de Medeiros Nóbrega Nunes Gomes e Genilda Azerêdo tomam os conceitos de performance (Butler, 1990) e de performatividade narrativa (Berns, 2013) como ferramentas analíticas para refletir sobre o conto “Toda Lana Turner tem seu Johnny Stompanato”, de Sonia Coutinho. A análise articula uma perspectiva que leva em conta a constituição de gênero das personagens e um enfoque narratológico na forma reflexiva/metaficcional a partir da qual o conto se estabelece. O quarto artigo, Elevações do Cotidiano na Poesia de Maria Lúcia Dal Farra: Três Poemas em Perspectiva, de Kalina Naro Guimarães, discute a lírica de Maria Lúcia Dal Farra a partir da análise dos poemas – “Manhã”, “Culinária” e “Sustância” –, integrantes do Livro de auras (1994). O objetivo é investigar como é problematizado aí o cotidiano, enquanto espaço generalizante e repetitivo marcado pela imediatez e irreflexão, em favor de uma poética que situa essa cotidianidade no universo feminino e que, com intenso tom meditativo, religa os laços humanos perdidos, tecendo um tempo mítico. No quinto artigo, Utopias americanas – terror y amor en la estética modernista de Graça Aranha y José Vasconcelos, os autores Silvana Seabra Hooper e Gilmar Rocha analisam o significado do terror e do amor no imaginário utópico latinoamericano a partir do romance Canaã (1901), de Graça Aranha, e do ensaio Raza cósmica (1925), do mexicano José Vasconcelos, tendo como foco os conflitos entre a raça e o meio expressos em ambas as obras. O sexto artigo, Lady Chatterrley: rewriting D. H. Lawrence’s novel on screen, de Carlos Augusto Viana da Silva, visa analisar a segunda versão de Lady Chatterley’s Lover (1928), de D. H. Lawrence – John Thomas and Lady Jane (1954), bem como o filme Lady Chatterley (2006), da diretora francesa Pascale Ferran. Com base em princípios teóricos da adaptação fílmica e em preceitos da tradução intersemiótica, o autor põe em evidência aspectos do processo de construção dos principais personagens e da recepção do filme e seu papel na representação da busca de Lawrence por uma unidade clássica na sua visão de homem. No sétimo artigo, O Coração das Trevas e a crítica literária, o autor, Douglas Ceccagno, propõe-se a pensar sobre as diferentes formas de completar e interpretar a narrativa de Joseph Conrad, permeada de lacunas - do não dito e do indevassável -, a partir de diferentes teorias contemporâneas da literatura, como a Desconstrução, a Crítica Psicanalítica, a Crítica da Recepção e o Novo Historicismo. Já no oitavo, intitulado Rua Prinsengracht, 263: rostidade e espaço nas realidades possíveis em O diário de Anne Frank, seus autores, Jorge Alves Santana e Benjamin Rosenthal, analisam O diário de Anne Frank, a partir da premissa de que o mesmo cartografa um singular instante de produção de subjetividade individual, institucional e coletiva. São salientados aí, com o auxílio de conceitos como lugar e não lugar, rostidade, heterotopia, entre outros, agenciamentos de subjetivação que parecem ser embasados por espacialidades pelas quais os actantes são determinados, mas que, por outro lado, também determiam. O nono artigo, Expressões de homoerotismo na poesia “Ode Marítima” de Fernando Pessoa. Mergulho nos insondáveis: mar e imaginário, de Ella Ferreira Bispo e Luizir de Oliveira, procura compreender o imaginário correspondente à realidade social de Fernando Pessoa, nos seus efeitos descritíveis a partir de uma análise das expressões de homoerotismo na poesia “Ode Marítima”. No último artigo, intitulado Os guias de viagens de Fernando Pessoa e de Manuel Bandeira: uma leitura comparada, de Danielle Alves Lopes, Rita Baleiro e Sílvia Quinteiro, apresenta uma leitura comparatista dos guias de viagem Lisboa: o que o turista deve ver (1925), de Fernando Pessoa, e Guia de Ouro Preto (1938), de Manuel Bandeira, sob o prisma dos estudos em literatura e turismo.

We are pleased to present the first issue of ActaScientiarum: Language and Culture, vol. 39, referring to the year 2017, dedicated to the area of literature.

In the first article, entitled The Phaeaciansand the Transition of Odysseus in the Odyssey, André Malta Campos starts from one of the greatest unanimous among Homer's scholars, which is the view on the transitional role played by Phaeaciansin the Odyssey, to analyze the way in which he constructs the characterization of his hosts: a people who, by bringing with themselves real and mythical elements, offers the hero the opportunity to recall the vicissitudes he has experienced since the departure of Troy, equally mixed with opposing elements, in order to show them the possibility of connection, concretely represented by the skill of these men in navigating.The second, Rhetoric snakes, poetic horror: effects of expression and the death of Laocoon in the Aeneid, by MárcioThamos, is concerned with analyzing in the episode of the death of Laocoon, inserted in the report on the Trojan horse, in the Aeneid, the effects of meaning achieved through the use of rhetorical figures, which, together with the interpenetration of the planes of language and the solidarity between content and expression as a literary index, guarantee the text a high degree of expressiveness. Aiming at contextualizing the episode, the author offers a decasyllabic translation of Virgil's hexameters, committed to preserving the figures of language used in Latin and the main effects of meaning aroused by them.In the third article of this issue entitled Performances and narrative performativity in "Every Lana Turner has her Johnny Stompanato", by Sonia Coutinho, the authors CaioAntônio de Medeiros NóbregaNunes Gomes andGenildaAzerêdo take the performance concepts (Butler, 1990) and the narrative performativity (Berns, 2013) as analytical tools to reflect on the tale "Every Lana Turner has her Johnny Stompanato", by Sonia Coutinho. The analysis articulates a perspective that takes into account the gender constitution of the characters and a narratological focus on the reflexive/metafictional form from which the tale is established. The fourth article, Elevations of the Daily Life in the Poetry of Maria Lúcia Dal Farra: Three Poems in Perspective, by KalinaNaroGuimarães, discusses Maria Lúcia Dal Farra's lyric from the analysis of the poems - “Manhã”, “Culinária” e “Sustância”-, part of the Book of Auras (1994). The objective is to investigate how the daily life is problematized as a generalizing and repetitive space marked by immediacy and recklessness, in favor of a poetics that places this quotidian in the feminine universe and which, with intense meditative tone, reconnects lost human ties, weaving a mythical time. In the fifth article, American Utopias - terror and love in the modernist aesthetics of GraçaAranha and José Vasconcelos, the authors Silvana Seabra Hooper and Gilmar Rocha analyze the meaning of terror and love in the utopian Latin American imaginary from the novel Canaã (1901), by GraçaAranha, and from the essay The Cosmic Race (1925) by the Mexican José Vasconcelos, focusing on the conflicts between race and the medium expressed in both works. The sixth article, Lady Chatterrley: rewriting DH Lawrence's novel on screen, by Carlos Augusto Viana da Silva, aims to analyze the second version of Lady Chatterley’s Lover (1928), by D. H. Lawrence - John Thomas and Lady Jane (1954), as well as the movieLady Chatterley (2006), by the French director Pascale Ferran.Based on theoretical principles of the movie adaptation and precepts of intersemiotic translation, the author highlights aspects of the process of constructing the main characters and the reception of the movie and its role in representing Lawrence's quest for a classic unity in his vision of man. In the seventh article, The Heart of Darkness and Literary Criticism, the author, Douglas Ceccagno, proposes to think about the different ways of completing and interpreting Joseph Conrad's narrative, permeated by gaps - of the unsaid and the indefeasible - from different contemporary theories of literature, such as Deconstruction, Psychoanalytic Criticism, Critique of Reception and New Historicism. In turn, the eighth article entitled Prinsengracht Street, 263: Rostity and space in the realities possible in Anne Frank's diary, by the authors Jorge Alves Santana and Benjamin Rosenthal, analyze Anne Frank's diary, from the premise that it maps a singular moment of production of individual, institutional and collective subjectivity.It emphasizes, with the aid of concepts such as place and not place, rostity, heterotopia, among others, assemblages of subjectivation that seem to be based on spatiality by which the actants are determined, but on the other hand, also determine. The ninth article, Expressions of homoeroticism in the poetry "Maritime Ode" by Fernando Pessoa. Diving in the unfathomable: sea and imaginary, by Ella Ferreira Bispo and Luizir de Oliveira, seeks to understand the imaginary corresponding to the social reality of Fernando Pessoa, in his descriptive effects from an analysis of the expressions of homoerotism in the poetry "Maritime Ode". In the last article, entitled The travel guides of Fernando Pessoa and Manuel Bandeira: a comparative reading, by Danielle Alves Lopes, Rita Baleiro and SílviaQuinteiro, presents a comparative reading of the travel guides Lisbon: what the tourist should see (1925), by Fernando Pessoa, and Guide to OuroPreto(1938), by Manuel Bandeira,under the prism of studies on literature and tourism.
