Resumen: En esta carta los autores dan respuesta al comentario recibido argumentando que la principal aportación de su artículo fue mostrar que el lugar de residencia habitual, así como el sexo y edad del individuo, determinan las principales causas de mortalidad entre los adultos mayores mexicanos.

Agradecemos al Dr. Antonio Reyna Sevilla por revisar nuestro artículo. En el artículo se describe claramente el objetivo de nuestro estudio, el cual fue determinar y describir a nivel nacional las principales causas de mortalidad por grado de rezago social, edad y sexo, en adultos mayores. Para alcanzar el objetivo, la metodología utilizada fue la más pertinente; a pesar de que no se emplean técnicas de estadística espacial, toma en cuenta el municipio de residencia del fallecido y describe las características socioeconómicas de dicho municipio, a través del grado de rezago social con el que se asocian las diferentes causas de mortalidad. Nuestro artículo muestra cómo el lugar de residencia habitual, así como el sexo y edad del individuo, determinan las principales causas de mortalidad entre los adultos mayores mexicanos. Estamos de acuerdo que el título sugiere que se realizará un análisis espacial y usar este término pudo no haber sido el más adecuado, sin embargo, esto no demerita los alcances y aportaciones de nuestro artículo, la crítica debió centrarse en el objetivo, metodología y resultados, no solo en el título.
We are grateful to Dr. Antonio Reyna Sevilla for reviewing our article. The article clearly describes the objective of our study: to determine and describe at the national level the main causes of mortality by degree of social backwardness, age and sex, in older adults. To achieve this objective, the methodology used was the most pertinent. Although spatial statistics techniques are not properly used, it takes into account the municipality of residence of the deceased and describes the socioeconomic characteristics of said municipality measured through the degree of social backwardness that are associated with the different causes of mortality.
Our article shows how the place of habitual residence, as well as the sex and age of the individual determine the main causes of mortality among Mexican older adults. We agree that the title suggests that a spatial analysis will be performed. We recognize that using the term “spatial analysis” in the title of our article may not have been the ideal, however, this does not detract from the scope and contributions of our article, the criticism should have focused on the objective, methodology and results, not only in the title.
