Editorial presentation
It is with great satisfaction that we start the year 2022 with another issue published by IBJESB - Iberoamerican Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business. Representing the scientific production of thirteen different research institutions, mostly public, from the southeast, south, northeast, and midwest regions of the country and an institution of Portugal.
In terms of types of articles published, this issue presents:
two studies that examine scientific production. One of them uses a computational method that allows, from the citation networks, the visualization of emerging clusters of themes, the works that were at the center of formation of these groups, and their evolution in time; another focuses on a specific theme - business accelerators - and, through a systematic and descriptive study of the literature, maps and analyzes the international scientific production in the period of thirty years, from 1990 to 2019;
three theoretical-empirical studies. One that focus on the influence of ethnicity on income, from a behavioral perspective, another examines the strategic role and IT governance mechanisms used in small and medium-sized companies, and, finally, one that studies the entrepreneurial intention of employees of startups, as well as those linked to small companies in the technology segment, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul;
a case study that allows students to focus on the entrepreneurial process of a business and its difficulties, from its conception in a business incubator, to the validation of its business model and the construction of its Minimum Viable Product (MVP);
a technological article that examines an informal enterprise, of assembly and decoration through floral arrangements, in a very relevant and active economic activity, which is the decoration of parties and events; the authors particularize how process innovation takes place in this enterprise.
Let's talk a little more about each of these papers, following the categorization presented.
Is entrepreneurship an emerging area of research? A computational response was the literature study developed by the authors Roney Fraga Souza (UFMT), Rosangela Ballini (UNICAMP), José Maria Ferreira Jardim Silveira (UNICAMP) and Aurora Amélia Castro Teixeira (FEP, Portugal; and UFMT). As anticipated, the authors use a computational procedure proposed by Shibata et al (2008) to examine the scientific production on entrepreneurship, to check whether it would be dispersed or if there would be concentration on certain topics. In this case of groups of themes, they examine them to detect which theme/s would be at the core, and the connections of these themes with other research areas.
The second bibliographical study is entitled Analysis of international scientific production on business accelerators, from 1990 to 2019, conducted by Matheus Eurico Soares de Noronha, Cristina Doritta Brandão Majorana, Leonardo Reis Longo and Ilan Avrichir, all from ESPM. In it, the authors consulted the Scopus and Web of Science databases, and after filtering them, they retained and examined at 95 articles. In this way, they contribute to a systematization of the literature, showing a model with four pillars of support for the acceleration processes, which are decomposed into eight processes worked on by the various accelerators.
The theoretical-empirical article The colors of entrepreneurship in Brazil: Effects of ethnicity on income, from a behavioral perspective was developed by Carolina Mato da Rosa (IENH), Silvio Luís de Vasconcellos (IENH and ESPM) and Christian Daniel Falaster (FURB). In this work, the authors use correlation analysis and linear regression to analyze data obtained from a survey with 107 entrepreneurs in Brazil, to show that ethnic condition negatively affects personal income, influenced by prejudice. However, even if the results did not reach statistical significance, depending on the behavioral logic employed - causation or effectuation - the negative effects are mitigated. This shows the potential of these behavioral variables and their possible use in education and public policy.
The strategic role of IT and IT governance mechanisms for the context of small and medium-sized companies is the contribution of authors Humberto Caetano Cardoso da Silva, Jairo Simião Dornelas and Marcus Augusto Vasconcelos Araújo, all from UFPE. This theoretical-empirical article uses the agency theory, and presents a survey with 68 companies in the service sector, showing that IT resources are used in a more operational way by SMEs, and that relational mechanisms of IT governance predominate over structural or procedural mechanisms. Employing inferential statistical analyses, the authors show that the greater intensity of strategic use of IT impacts on more structural, procedural and relational use of governance mechanisms.
Entrepreneurial intention in the context of IT companies is the theme focused on the theoretical empirical article Undertaking a business or not? Which is the best option? Analysis of the entrepreneurial intention profile of employees of startups and information technology companies in Rio Grande do Sul by Juliana Ribeiro da Rosa (UFRGS) and Carolina Freddo Fleck (UNIPAMPA). The questionnaire based on the model by Kristiansen and Indarti (2004) was used in a survey with 179 employees of startups and small companies in the technology sector in the state of RS, allowing to show that most of these professionals manifest an intention to undertake. Thus, managers or entrepreneurs of this type of company can and should adapt their management policies in order to maximize the best use of these human resources in favor of growth and greater competitiveness of these companies.
The case study 3 Marias: From women to women presents an enterprise that was born in a business incubator. The authors Leticia Fantinato Menegon (FGV and ESPM), Adrian Kemmer Cerneva (ESPM) and José Eduardo Amato Balian (FAAP) offer a teaching case in which students are led to discuss, reflect, and get involved with the difficulties involved in the development of the concept of an enterprise with social impact, the validation of this concept, the operationalization of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and the development of financial sustainability. The teaching notes presents the educational objectives, preparatory questions and questions for analysis and discussion of the case, theoretical bases, lesson plan and video resources that can be used.
Development of a process innovation in an informal enterpriseof flower arrangements field is the technological article presented by Rafael de Almeida Martarello (UNIVESP) and Débora Ferroba (IFSP). The article uses a qualitative-descriptive approach, based on documentary research, interviews (Oral Life History method) and observation. In this way, the authors show the improvement of process innovation based on technological resources. Thus, they reveal a greater ability to adapt to new customer demands, through innovation of equipment and machinery, that allowed achieving better development of floral arrangements. The equipment prototype developed and installed should expand the competitive advantage and offer of floral arrangements, given the lack of such a machine among competitors. The work points out how academic performance contributes to adding value to an enterprise that was at a social and economic disadvantage.
Once again, we thank all the authors who trusted the work of our journal. And this implies the dedication of the entire team of volunteer editors, the executive editor, and the many anonymous people who donate their time and expertise to evaluate the submitted articles and contribute with their comments and suggestions for their improvement.
Finally, we call on researchers and authors, especially from the North, Northeast and Midwest regions of Brazil, to be more represented in our journal. And we encourage partnerships with researchers from other countries, in order to further strengthen our academic production and publication.
